Did you know that back in the 90s, the US state of Alabama banned any guidance that involves guided imagery, meditation, or yoga in schools? That’s mind-blowing to think about, but it’s all starting to change, thanks in part to the efforts of today’s guest, Jeremy Gray. Jeremy campaigned to legalize yoga in schools so kids could be introduced to the benefits of yoga, breathing, and meditation practices.
Jeremy is an African-American politician, yogi, entrepreneur, author, philanthropist, and former professional athlete. He is currently serving as an Alabama State Representative and is running for Congress. He has sponsored legislation to allow yoga into Alabama public schools through the Yoga Bill, as well as publishing a yoga book aimed at children.
Tune in this week to learn how yoga was banned and subsequently legalized in public schools in Alabama. State Representative Jeremy Gray is discussing the serious misconceptions that led to yoga being banned in Alabama’s schools, sharing how he spent three years educating people about what yoga really is, and he’s discussing how yoga can have a huge positive impact on children everywhere.
